Calvin Kuepfer has owned Country Style Meats for seven years, but the well-established butcher shop was in operation for 14 years before he took over. Fresh pork sausage continues to be Kuepfer’s specialty in the popular booth that offers a wide selection of cold cuts, meats, pepperettes, smoked pork products and cheeses from the Bright Cheese and Butter Manufacturing Co. All of Country Style’s fresh beef and pork products are processed using locally raised livestock. Summer sausage is a local staple any time of year and Country Style Meats offers one of the best tasting sausages around.

“It’s better than everybody else’s,” says Kuepfer of his selection that is made using an “old Mennonite recipe.” Some of Country Style’s regular and returning customers
have come as far afield as Alberta and Manitoba, and Kuepfer expects to see many of his regular Ontario customers when he returns to the Wellesley ABC Festival’s Arena Market for the sixth time this year.

Country Style Meats has six part time employees that work in the shop and at a Saturday booth at the Stratford Market. Country Style Meats was also at the recent Western Fair Market in London. Like every vendor at the Festival, Kuepfer is happy to offer 10 per cent of his sales to the ABC committee every year.

Country Style Meats is located at 3700 Nafziger Road in Wellesley and is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival may be known for its food, but it’s also a great place to shop for a variety of hand-made crafts and unique gifts. Among the dozens of vendors filling the Arena Market this year is the eclectic collection offered by Choices. Kathy Joslin has operated her home-based business for 14 years, offering a changing selection of one-of-a-kind jewelry, accessories, candles and Victorian home décor, “Whatever I see that I like, I buy,” Joslin says of the successful business that takes her to various festivals and market shows around the province each year. “I named it Choices, so I could sell anything.”

Joslin is marking her sixth year at the ABC Festival and counts on her family and friends to help run the busy booth that features everything Choices has to offer. Like all vendors in the ABC Market, Joslin is happy to donate 10 per cent of her sales back to the Festival. And she’s proud of the fact that her sales have increased each year, meaning more money is going into the community.

If you happen to miss the Choices booth at this year’s festival, Joslin also offers appointment-only viewings of her products by calling 519-888-9570.
